A large, specialized valve or assembly of valves installed at the top of a well, known as a Blowout Preventer. Its purpose is to seal, control, and monitor the wellbore to stop the uncontrolled flow of formation fluids in an emergency. The BOP stack includes components like ram preventers, which close by shearing or sealing around pipe, and an annular preventer that can close around different pipe sizes.
