Shear ram
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003359
A component of a blowout preventer (BOP) that uses powerful hydraulic force to cut through drill pipe or casing and seal the wellbore. These rams are designed with hardened steel blades that can sever tubulars under high pressure. Shear rams provide a failsafe mechanism to close off the well in an emergency, preventing uncontrolled flow of formation fluids.
