Pipe ram

A component of a blowout preventer (BOP) that seals around the drill pipe or casing in the wellbore. It consists of two opposing blocks with semicircular openings that conform to the outside diameter of the pipe. Pipe rams are activated hydraulically to close off the annulus and prevent uncontrolled flow from the well.
