Pipe stretch
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002801
The elongation of a drill pipe or tubing string under tensile load, caused by its own weight and the forces applied during drilling or completion operations. This elastic deformation must be accounted for when accurately positioning tools or measuring depths in a wellbore. It is typically measured in feet or meters of stretch per thousand feet of pipe.
