Blind shear ram

A component of a blowout preventer (BOP) that can seal off a wellbore by shearing through any pipe or obstruction in its path and then sealing the well. It consists of two opposing blades that close with immense force to cut and seal. Blind shear rams provide a last resort for well control in emergency situations, capable of sealing an open hole.
