Discontinuity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005048

A sharp change in a meteorological variable over a small spatial distance or short time interval. This can manifest as an abrupt shift in temperature, humidity, wind speed, or wind direction across a boundary. Fronts, such as cold fronts or warm fronts, are classic examples of atmospheric discontinuities where air masses with different properties meet.
