Surface of discontinuity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009440
A theoretical boundary within a fluid or atmosphere where there is an abrupt change in one or more physical properties, such as density, temperature, or velocity. In meteorology, atmospheric fronts are examples of surfaces of discontinuity, separating air masses with different characteristics. These surfaces are often associated with significant weather phenomena.
