Thermal internal boundary layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009585
A layer of air that forms downwind from a coastline or other sharp change in surface temperature, where the air mass transitions from one thermal regime to another. It develops as cooler air moves over a warmer surface, or vice versa, leading to changes in atmospheric stability and mixing. The height of this boundary layer typically increases with distance downwind from the thermal discontinuity.
