Internal boundary layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006599
A layer that develops within the atmospheric boundary layer when air flows from one surface type to another with different roughness or thermal properties. This layer grows in depth downwind from the change in surface characteristics as the air adjusts to the new conditions. It is particularly relevant for air pollution dispersion modeling near coastlines or urban areas.
