Urban boundary layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009922
The lowest part of the atmosphere directly influenced by an urban area, characterized by altered thermal, aerodynamic, and moisture properties compared to rural surroundings. This layer exhibits higher temperatures (urban heat island), reduced wind speeds, and increased turbulence due to buildings and impervious surfaces. Its depth and characteristics vary with time of day and meteorological conditions.
