Discontinuous turbulence

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005049

A state of atmospheric turbulence characterized by intermittent bursts of turbulent motion separated by periods of calmer, more laminar flow. This phenomenon often occurs in stable atmospheric layers where shear forces are present but not strong enough to sustain continuous turbulence. It can significantly impact the dispersion of pollutants.
