Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000882

The highest point of a structural trap, such as an anticline or dome, where hydrocarbons accumulate due to their buoyancy. This position represents the uppermost closure of the reservoir rock, making it the primary target for exploration drilling. Hydrocarbon columns are measured from the crest down to the oil-water or gas-water contact.
