Spill point
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003541
The structurally lowest point on the boundary of a potential hydrocarbon trap beyond which hydrocarbons will leak or migrate. It defines the maximum vertical and areal extent of a petroleum accumulation within a given closure. The vertical distance from the crest of the structure to the spill point is called the closure, which determines the maximum possible height of the hydrocarbon column.
