Paraffinic hydrocarbon

An organic compound consisting of only carbon and hydrogen atoms, with all carbon-carbon bonds being single bonds, also known as an alkane. Certain paraffinic hydrocarbons are used as base oils in synthetic drilling fluids, offering good environmental properties and thermal stability. They are characterized by their saturated straight or branched chain structures.
