Acyclic compound

An organic chemical compound characterized by an open-chain molecular structure, meaning its carbon atoms are not arranged in a ring. These compounds can be saturated or unsaturated, containing single, double, or triple carbon-carbon bonds. Many common drilling fluid additives, such as certain polymers and surfactants, are acyclic compounds.
