Polar compound

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002840

A chemical substance composed of molecules that have a net electrical dipole moment, meaning there is an uneven distribution of electron density. These compounds are characterized by their ability to dissolve in other polar solvents, such as water, and their strong interaction with charged surfaces. Many drilling fluid additives, like emulsifiers and dispersants, are polar compounds.
