Oligomer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002618
A polymer composed of a relatively small number of repeating monomer units, typically fewer than ten. In drilling fluids, certain oligomeric compounds are used as dispersants, fluid loss control agents, or shale inhibitors. Their short chain length provides specific performance characteristics not found in high molecular weight polymers.
