Polymer

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002853

A large molecule composed of many repeated smaller molecular units, known as monomers, linked together in a chain. In drilling fluids, polymers are used for viscosity modification, fluid loss control, shale inhibition, and friction reduction. Common examples include xanthan gum, polyanionic cellulose, and partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide.
