Cellulosic polymer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000606
A type of polymer derived from cellulose, used as a viscosifier and fluid loss control agent in water-based drilling fluids. These polymers increase the fluid's carrying capacity for cuttings and reduce the amount of filtrate that invades the formation. Examples include carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), which are biodegradable.
