Cement
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000607
A binding material that precipitates in the pore spaces of sedimentary rocks, reducing porosity and permeability. It can be composed of minerals like calcite, quartz, or clay, and forms during diagenesis. In well construction, cement is also a slurry of Portland cement, water, and additives pumped into the annulus between the casing and borehole wall to provide zonal isolation and structural support.
