Strength retrogression
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003646
A reduction in the compressive strength of set cement over time, particularly when exposed to high temperatures in a wellbore. This phenomenon occurs as the cement matrix undergoes chemical and physical changes, leading to a loss of structural integrity. It can compromise zonal isolation and casing support, requiring careful selection of cement additives to mitigate its effects in deep, hot wells.
