Unconfined compressive strength (UCS)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003973

The maximum axial compressive stress that a cylindrical rock or soil sample can withstand without lateral confinement. It is a measure of the material's resistance to failure under compression. UCS values are determined through laboratory tests and are expressed in units of pressure, such as pounds per square inch (psi) or megapascals (MPa).
