Uniaxial compressive strength
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003988
The maximum compressive stress a rock sample can withstand along a single axis before failure, without any confining pressure applied to its sides. This fundamental mechanical property is determined by crushing a cylindrical core sample in a laboratory. It is a key input for assessing rock strength, wellbore stability, and hydraulic fracturing design, typically measured in megapascals (MPa).
