Temperature stability
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003787
The ability of a drilling fluid to maintain its physical and chemical properties, such as viscosity, gel strength, and fluid loss control, over a range of elevated temperatures encountered in a wellbore. High temperature stability is achieved through the selection of appropriate base fluids and additives that resist thermal degradation. This property is measured by testing fluid samples at simulated downhole conditions.
