CMC
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000713
Carboxymethyl cellulose, a polymer derived from cellulose, functions as a viscosifier and fluid loss control agent in water-based drilling fluids. It forms a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall, reducing the invasion of drilling fluid into the formation. CMC is available in different grades, distinguished by their molecular weight and degree of substitution.
