Carboxymethylcellulose
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004256
A cellulose derivative widely used as a fluid loss control agent and viscosifier in water-based drilling fluids. It functions by increasing the viscosity of the mud and forming a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall, which minimizes fluid invasion into the formation. This polymer is available in different grades, with high-viscosity grades primarily for rheology control and low-viscosity grades for fluid loss control.
