Sodium polyacrylate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003494
A synthetic polymer used as a fluid loss control agent and viscosifier in water-based drilling fluids, especially in freshwater and saltwater muds. This high-molecular-weight polymer forms a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall, minimizing filtrate invasion into the formation. It is effective across a wide temperature range and is often designated as a low-viscosity or high-viscosity grade.
