Sodium phosphate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003493
A class of chemical compounds used as deflocculants or thinners in freshwater drilling fluids to control rheology. These additives, including sodium acid pyrophosphate (SAPP) and tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP), reduce viscosity and gel strength by dispersing clay particles. Phosphate thinners are most effective in low-calcium muds and tend to lose their effectiveness at temperatures above approximately 200°F (93°C).
