Phosphate salt
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002776
A chemical compound containing a phosphate ion, used in drilling fluids primarily as a deflocculant or dispersant. These salts reduce the viscosity and gel strength of clay-based drilling muds by dispersing clay particles. Sodium acid pyrophosphate (SAPP) and tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) are common examples used to thin muds.
