Chromic salt

A chemical compound containing chromium in a trivalent state, sometimes used in drilling fluids as a deflocculant or shale inhibitor. While less toxic than hexavalent chromium, its use is still subject to environmental scrutiny. Chromic salts are distinct from chromate salts, which contain hexavalent chromium.
