Sodium dichromate

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003492

A chemical compound formerly used as a corrosion inhibitor and clay stabilizer in certain drilling fluids. Its application involved forming a protective film on metal surfaces and reducing the swelling of water-sensitive shales. Due to its high toxicity and environmental concerns as a hexavalent chromium compound, its use in drilling operations has been almost entirely replaced by safer, more environmentally friendly alternatives.
