Silicate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003409
A compound containing silicon and oxygen, often with other elements, that is used as an additive in drilling fluids. Silicates contribute to wellbore stability by forming a protective layer on shale surfaces, inhibiting water absorption and swelling. Sodium silicate is a common example, forming a gel-like structure that seals pores and microfractures.
