Silicate mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003412
A water-based drilling fluid system that incorporates soluble silicates to enhance wellbore stability, particularly in reactive shale formations. The silicates react with the shale to form a protective, impermeable layer that inhibits water invasion and prevents swelling and dispersion of clay minerals. This mud system is effective in reducing torque and drag and minimizing hole enlargement.
