Tetrahedral layer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003799
A structural component of clay minerals, consisting of silicon atoms surrounded by four oxygen atoms, forming a tetrahedron. These tetrahedra are linked together to create a sheet-like structure within the clay crystal lattice. In drilling fluids, the arrangement and charge of these layers influence the swelling and dispersion characteristics of clay particles.
