Silica

Silicon dioxide (SiO2), a common compound found abundantly in the Earth's crust as quartz and other silicate minerals. It is a primary component of many sedimentary rocks, such as sandstones and cherts. Silica can also act as a cementing agent in clastic reservoirs, affecting porosity and permeability.
