Felsic

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001383

Describing an igneous rock, magma, or mineral rich in light-colored elements such as silicon, oxygen, aluminum, sodium, and potassium. Felsic rocks like granite and rhyolite are composed primarily of feldspar and quartz. While not typical reservoir rocks themselves, the weathering and erosion of felsic source rocks provide the quartz and feldspar grains that form many clastic reservoirs, such as arkosic sandstones.
