Granite

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001726

A common type of felsic intrusive igneous rock, characterized by its coarse-grained texture and composition primarily of quartz, feldspar, and mica. While not typically a reservoir rock itself due to its low porosity and permeability, granite can form the basement beneath sedimentary basins. It can also be a source of heat for hydrocarbon maturation in overlying sediments.
