Massif
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002290
A large, rigid block of crustal rock that has moved as a single unit, bounded by faults or flexures. It consists of crystalline basement rocks, such as granite or gneiss, that are more resistant to erosion than the surrounding formations. As a structural high, a massif influences the deposition of adjacent sedimentary basins, creating traps for hydrocarbons along its flanks.
