Hard rock
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001786
Geological formations characterized by high compressive strength and low porosity, making them difficult to drill through. These rocks, such as granite, basalt, or highly cemented sandstones, require specialized drilling bits and higher weight-on-bit to penetrate effectively. Drilling rates in hard rock are typically much slower than in softer sedimentary formations.
