Chromate salt
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000664
A chemical compound containing the chromate ion, historically used as a corrosion inhibitor in drilling fluids and completion brines. Chromate salts form a protective passive film on metal surfaces, reducing the degradation of drilling equipment. Due to environmental concerns regarding hexavalent chromium, its use has been largely phased out and replaced by less toxic alternatives.
