Chrome-free
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000668
Describing a drilling fluid formulation that does not contain chromium compounds, which are often used as corrosion inhibitors or deflocculants. Environmental regulations and concerns about the toxicity of hexavalent chromium have led to the development and increased use of chrome-free alternatives. These fluids achieve similar performance using other chemistries, such as iron lignosulfonates or synthetic polymers.
