SAPP
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004441
Sodium acid pyrophosphate, a chemical additive used in drilling fluids as a deflocculant and thinner. It works by adsorbing onto clay particles, imparting a negative charge that causes them to repel each other, thereby reducing mud viscosity. SAPP is particularly effective in freshwater muds and is typically added in concentrations of 0.25 to 2 pounds per barrel.
