SARA analysis
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003256
A laboratory method for separating crude oil into four distinct chemical fractions based on their polarity and solubility. The fractions are saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes (SARA). This analysis provides a compositional characterization of the oil, which is used to predict its physical properties, refining behavior, and potential for forming problematic deposits like asphaltenes during production.
