Asphaltene onset concentration
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000196
The specific concentration of a precipitating agent, or a specific pressure and temperature condition, at which asphaltenes begin to flocculate and precipitate from crude oil. This threshold marks the transition of asphaltenes from a stable colloidal suspension to an unstable state, leading to solid deposits. The onset point is determined experimentally using methods like high-pressure microscopy or light scattering techniques to measure the first appearance of solid particles.
