Asphaltene onset pressure
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000197
The pressure at which asphaltenes begin to precipitate from crude oil as reservoir pressure declines or gas is injected. This pressure is determined by laboratory experiments that simulate reservoir conditions, often using a high-pressure visual cell. Asphaltene precipitation can cause formation damage and flow assurance issues in wells and pipelines.
