Asphaltic crude

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000200

A type of crude oil containing a high concentration of asphaltenes, which are large, complex hydrocarbon molecules that are solid at surface conditions. These crudes are typically heavy, viscous, and have a low API gravity. The presence of asphaltenes can cause operational problems by precipitating out of the oil with changes in pressure, temperature, or composition, leading to blockages in pipelines and production equipment.
