Naphthene-base crude oil

A type of crude oil characterized by a high proportion of naphthenes (cycloparaffins) and a relatively low content of paraffins and aromatics. These crudes are often dense and viscous, yielding a higher percentage of asphalt and lubricating oils upon refining. They are distinguished from paraffin-base and asphalt-base crudes by their chemical composition and refining characteristics.
