Sulfur light crude

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003689

A light crude oil that carries notable sulfur compounds, including hydrogen sulfide, and is therefore classed as sour even though it is low in density. The sulfur makes the oil toxic and corrosive to handle and must be removed in refining. By common convention a crude with more than about 0.5 percent sulfur by weight is called sour, which contrasts with light sweet crude.
