Summation of fluids method

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003690

A core-analysis method in which the oil, water and gas volumes in a fresh core sample are measured separately and summed to give the pore volume. Water and oil are driven off by heating or distillation and collected, while the gas volume is found by injecting mercury at low pressure. Each fluid volume divided by the bulk volume gives its share of the porosity, and dividing by the pore volume gives the saturations.
