Superficial velocity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003691
The hypothetical velocity of a single fluid phase if it were flowing alone through the entire cross-sectional area of the pipe, ignoring the presence of other phases. It is calculated by dividing the volumetric flow rate of that phase by the total pipe cross-sectional area. Superficial velocity is a fundamental parameter in multiphase flow correlations.
